SCRANTON -- Many folks in our area didn't have to work on this Labor Day so they used the opportunity for one last hurrah of summer.

Labor Day is kind of bittersweet. You are happy to have the day off, but you know this is the last holiday of the summer.

A family from Scranton wanted to spend one more summer day outdoors at Lackawanna State Park.

"We wanted to camp for the last couple days, and here we are in the boat. It's very enjoyable. We had beautiful weather," said Pamela Yashinski.

Lots of folks woke up on this Labor Day to weather that looked uncertain.

In some places, it looked as though it would rain at any moment, so some people didn't take any chances. They headed to Cinemark in Moosic to take in a movie.

"My daughter's decision to come to the movies today and then our plan was to go up to the water park after this but, hopefully the rain will hold off after that," said Jack Gaffney.

Coming to the movies, the weather, we were going to do outdoor things today but unfortunately the weather did not help us out with that so here we are," said Stacey Locker of Dunmore.

Lots of folks use the Labor Day holiday to do back-to-school shopping or pick up a bargain or sale.

And of course, this was the last day of a three-day Italian festival on Courthouse Square in Scranton. It's become a tradition for people to enjoy the Labor Day holiday eating all kinds of ethnic goodies.

But at the same time, some are a little sad  that summer, for the most part, is coming to a close.

"Personally, I'm a summer person. I don't like the winter at all. A lot of people do. Not me. I don't like any of it. The summer? We go all the time. Do things. Go here. Go there," said Mary Giordano of Scranton.
