WEST PITTSTON -- A dog and a snake were rescued from a burning apartment house in Luzerne County Sunday night.

The fire started around 8:30 p.m. at an apartment house on Luzerne Avenue in West Pittston.

Fire officials say the family that lives on the second floor was not home. One person in the first floor apartment made it out OK. A dog and a snake were also taken out of that first floor apartment.

A state police fire marshal is expected in West Pittston on Monday to check out the cause of the fire.
