HALLSTEAD -- Families in one part of Susquehanna County spent Sunday cleaning up a mess that was left behind by a fast-moving thunderstorm.

One teenager who lives along Chase Avenue in Hallstead told Newswatch 16 that he and his family hid in the basement Saturday afternoon as the storm blew past and brought down several large trees in his front yard.

At nearby Rose Hill cemetery, volunteers spend Sunday afternoon trying to clear out fallen trees.

One tree that toppled left a large beehive and honeycomb near a headstone.

According to Claverack, more than 1,600 homes and businesses lost power during the height of the storm in the Northern tier.
