STROUD TOWNSHIP -- An East Stroudsburg North High School teacher was back in court again on charges she had a sexual relationship with another one of her students last school year.

This is the second time Cynthia Hartopp of Stroudsburg has been in district court since June. Both times, police accused Hartopp of having an inappropriate relationship with a student at East Stroudsburg North High School.

But this time, Hartopp is turning herself in.

When asked why she decided to turn herself in, her attorney, Steven Jones of Langhorne said, "Ms. Hartopp is not going to make any comment today."

Hartopp is no longer an art teacher at East Stroudsburg High School North near Bushkill.

School district officials say she has been suspended since April, when the accusations came out that Hartopp was having an inappropriate relationship with one of her 16 year-old male students. Then in June, Hartopp was brought into district court and charged with sexual assault.

At that time, state police searched Hartopp's phone and found text messages between the art teacher and a different student, a 17 year-old boy.

Police say this student also went to Hartopp's apartment in Stroudsburg where he was sexually assaulted.

"Obviously these are very serious charges. She is very concerned with them, as is her family and all the parties involved and we're going to address the charges at the appropriate time," said Hartopp's attorney, Steven Jones.

East Stroudsburg Area School District officials say they are disheartened to learn about the additional charges against Cynthia Hartopp and that she will remain suspended without pay.

Hartopp is free on bail.
