BRODHEADSVILLE -- The third and final victim of the Ross Township tragedy was laid to rest Saturday in Monroe County.
Gerard Kozic was one of three men killed when police say a man opened fire at a township meeting earlier this month.
Family and friends turned out to say final goodbyes to a musician and loving husband known to many as "Jerry".
There were mourners lined up out the door at the Kresge Funeral Home in Brodheadsville. Each of them here to say goodbye to Jerry Kozic. Kozic was one of three people killed when police say a gunman opened fire on the Ross Township supervisor's meeting earlier this month.
Kozic was there with his wife Linda, and pushed her to the ground in order to save her life. Jerry Kozic, however, did not survive.
"It's just a terrible shame we're all really sorry he's not with us anymore but hopefully he's at a better place," said Kozic's cousin Pat Sutter. "I know his wife feels that way."
The memorial service included some upbeat jazz music. After all, music was a big part of kozic's life.
"He was a bonafide genius," said Steve Braunstein, a fellow musician. "The guy was a born genius, could play anything."
Jackie Karchner went to school with kozic. She and some other classmates recently reunited and saw him play at mount airy casino and resort. A few days later. He was gone.
"He was very funny, very outgoing, musical talent like you can't believe," she said. "His glass of milk was always half full."
"He was very endearing man on stage, personally speaking,' said fellow performer Jack Swersie. "He was a wonderful wonderful person. This is just incredibly tragic."
And as the community begins to find some closure. Friends and family of Jerry Kozic will remember him for making the ultimate sacrifice. And making music in his life.
"It came from his heart," said fellow musician Marty Wilson. "He was the sweetest guy, he was the most talented guy, he was just a great all around human being, it's really a tragedy."
