One Strike Ordinance Approved in Wilkes-Barre
WILKES-BARRE — Wilkes-Barre City Council approved changes to an ordinance aimed at cracking down on crime and problem properties at it’s meeting Thursday night.
Starting September 1st, tenants slapped with just one drug or weapon offense can now be kicked out of their rental unit for six months.
During that time, the space would be declared uninhabitable, meaning no tenants and no rent checks for landlords.
The city of Wilkes-Barre hopes this will force landlords and tenants to be more responsible.
