DELAWARE WATER GAP -- A group in Monroe County is looking to make a safe place for children who are victims of crime.
Organizers plan to open the County's first Child Advocacy Center. Children and Youth said crimes against children are on the rise. When a child is a victim, that child is interviewed by different agencies at several locations.
The Child Advocacy Center would streamline that process, allowing one person to interview the child as all agencies listen.
"They also get all the referrals for counseling there, the center would do ongoing counseling, instead of having to be referred out to some place and it's right in our own backyard, in our own community," said Director of Victim Assistance, Maureen Egley.
The center is expected to open in October of next year.
