HANOVER TOWNSHIP -- A quick moving fire in Luzerne County destroyed one home and damaged two others on Saturday.

The fire broke out around 10:30 a.m. along Solomon Street in Hanover Township.

Chief Jeff Tudgay of the Hanover Township Fire Department said an eviction notice was issued at the same property a few weeks ago.

"It was a vacant structure we did an eviction notice approximately the 22nd of July on this property," he said.

Officials said a family was living in the back of the home. The same area where firefighters believe the blaze started.

For those who live in this section of town, they worry that the fire could have been started intentionally.

"With all the crime that's going on in Wilkes-Barre and Hanover lately you don't know. Did somebody set it? Could it accidentally happen? It's just very scary," said Elizabeth Eastman.

Chief Tudgway said that the utilities were still on inside the home.

Since it was a vacant property they are treating it as suspicious and handing the investigation over to a state police fire marshal.

The building is a total loss.
