PLYMOUTH -- A driver is locked up in Luzerne County accused of driving into and killing a man in Plymouth Wednesday night.

Neighbors say this was a road rage incident that turned deadly.

Fred Kleman, 42, of Plymouth was hit along Nottingham Street in Plymouth after 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Neighbors say this all happened because he told a driver to slow down on the street.  Then the driver allegedly came back and hit him.

That driver is now locked up.

What started as a calm summer night in Plymouth turned into a crime scene.  Police say a man sped through this neighborhood and hit Fred Kleman who was standing outside with friends on the side of the road.

Lorenzo Burgos, 21,of Plymouth is now charged with homicide by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter, and several counts of reckless and careless driving.

Michael Olexy was almost hit. He says as the car flew by, Kleman told the driver to slow down. A few minutes later the car came back.

"About 5, 10, 15 minutes later, we hear the car coming down and then right about by this blue car, he swerved, and we were standing right there," Olexy recounted.

Kleman was hit.  Neighbors say the driver got out of the car with a metal bar and threatened to kill Kleman.

When neighbors tried to catch him, he ran off. Police arrested Burgos at a convenience store.

According to court papers, Burgos dropped off his fiancée's kids in between trips down Nottingham Street.

He told police he never meant to hit Kleman but planned to stop his car in front of Kleman to scare him. Burgos told police he had bad tires.

"It's senseless," said the victim's girlfriend Cathy Huk.  "I mean, I just lost everything. I mean, I'm with him 15 years."

Huk says she was also almost hit and is in shock about what happened.

"He was always there for me, and I was always there for him. His mom thanked me, thanks for being there with him. I was his backbone, I guess. He was mine."
