One year after running 23 miles to Knoebels Amusement Resort, a high school senior from Snyder County has done it again.
A group of a half-dozen runners was running with a purpose, led by Selinsgrove High School Senior Devon Blair. This is the second run to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.
A few National Guardsmen joined Devon, his dad and a friend on the 23 mile journey. They stopped along the way to rest or rehydrate, all the while, their minds on the finish line.
Last year, Devon and his group ran from Selinsgrove to Knoebels to complete a graduation project. This year, they decided it was such a success they would run again.
When they finally reached the finish, the runners were pretty tired. Private First Class Brandon Nash of Shamokin said this was his first time running such a great distance and for such a great cause.
"It's a good feeling, it goes somewhere, part of my family. It's a good cause, we feel the pain they felt, it goes a long way," said PFC Nash.
Devon Blair's parents have a reason to be proud. Their son was the driving force behind the run for a second year in a row and was able to raise just shy of $4,000 for the Wounded Warrior Project.
"The response once again has been unbelievable,. We got a $1,000 donation from someone, that's amazing that someone would do that for something my son's doing," said Rick Blair.
And whether Devon and company will do it again? The high school senior is confident they will.
"Oh my God yeah, every year, until I can't run or people stop responding," said Devon Blair.
Devon's run started out with just a few hundred dollars raised for the Wounded Warrior Project that helps men and women injured in combat.
After the run, they were able to raise nearly $4,000 and counting.
