MONTROSE – Susquehanna County’s new hospital is slated to open in just a few months and today officials marked another milestone in the building’s progress.
Physicians, board members and hospital administrators in Susquehanna County unveiled the hospital’s cornerstone at the Endless Mountains Health Systems Complex.
The new hospital just off Route 706 in Montrose will replace a 55-year-old facility.
"A very far away dream if you will, to a real amazing reality," said Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Jose Nacar.
Back in January Newswatch 16 gave a sneak peek into the hospital’s progress that began in 2012. Workers busy building a state of the art facility that will have 25 rooms, a new Emergency Room and an outpatient facility just for starters.
Now, even though there’s still sheet rock to install, the hospital says the building will be ready to go in October, about a month later than originally planned.
"It`s been very fulfilling to see this come to pass. We`ve worked long and hard at it,” said Chairman of the Board Ray Wilmarth.
Here on the second floor hospital officials say only detail work needs to be done to be ready for their scheduled opening here this fall.
"We`ve been working in a very crumbled conditions for several years so now it`s nice to see that this area will have a state of the art facility,” said Dr. Nacar.
Doctors say inside these new rooms they plan to double the amount of procedures done and will be adding new specialists and new equipment.
“We`ll be having an in house MRI where prior to this we did not have an MRI Service, we have an expanded OR space," said Endless Mountains Hospital CEO Rex Catlin.
"This community really deserves to have a facility like this for this generation, but for the generations to come,” said Wilmarth.
The new facility is scheduled to be completed October 22 and patients are scheduled to move in early November.
