HUNLOCK TOWNSHIP---Hunlock Creek fire officials said they discovered a man's body inside a house that was on fire Thursday afternoon.

The fire was at 154 Hartman Road in Hunlock Township, near Hunlock Creek, Luzerne County and was reported around 3:30 in the afternoon.

"Family members called it in. They live right here in the area," said Hunlock Creek Fire Chief Chris Meeker.

The fire chief said crews quickly found 54-year-old Kent Brace's body in the area of the living room. They said Brace lived in the house alone.

Firefighters put out the flames. They said most of the damage was to the back of the home.

"The flames were in the back of the building, the first and second floors, interior crew did a good job. We had a crew do a search and they ended up finding him on a first floor," said Meeker.

A state police fire marshall was called in to investigate the cause of the blaze.

Officials on scene said relatives of the victim and a firefighter who lives on Hartman Road were the reason for the quick response.

"I belive it was a cousin possibly was the one that spotted the fire, he was screaming in the front yard, we actually have a member who lives down the street heard him screaming and came out and found the smoke," said Chief Meeker.
