Crews Investigate Smoke, Chemical Smell

OLYPHANT -- Fire crews in Lackawanna County were called to Olyphant Monday morning for reports of heavy smoke and a chemical smell in the area of Stanton Road.

Emergency officials tell us workers at Insituform, a plant that manufactures pipes, were mixing chemicals when a vapor escaped through an exhaust valve.

Authorities said no toxic chemicals were released.

Several roads in the area that were closed earlier Monday are back open.

Officials at Mid Valley School District said the ESY program is canceled Monday due to the incident.
