WILKES-BARRE -- Family and friends say David George, 24, a father of three, is the one who was gunned down outside a home in the city of Wilkes-Barre. His relatives tell us he was visiting family members.
It happened along South Welles Street around 11 p.m. Thursday.
Soon after loved ones of the victim, including his sister Jasmin George, learned of the violence that played out turning her life upside down in a matter of seconds.
"Somebody called me and told me about my brother," she said. "He's a father. He was my best friend. He was my brother. We weren't twins but I felt like we should've been."
Jasmin's friend Byron Vinson who also rushed over to the Wilkes-Barre home described what he saw.
"I got over there. He was already laying there," Vinson said. "He was over there, no sheet on him."
And just when neighbors in this Wilkes-Barre community thought the violence for the night had ended, came another issue along South Welles Street. Investigators say the 16-year-old brother of the victim attacked a newspaper photographer. Police used a stun gun to get the teen under control before taking him away.
At this point, investigators say the deadly shooting appears to be "an isolated incident and not a random act of violence.'"
For the victim's sister, an arrest can't come soon enough as she and her family hold out hope that soon police will track down the person who took David George's life.
"Whoever shot my brother in the back of his head is still somewhere right now, probably thinking about it, talking about it. Enjoy your life right now while you can!"
This is the seventh homicide this year in Wilkes-Barre, all men who were shot. The shooting comes a week after Mayor Leighton stated in press conference that crime in the city is "statistically" down.
