STROUDSBURG -- The Poconos has lost a community leader.  Lester Abeloff passed away Tuesday at his home in Stroudsburg.

Abeloff was a World War II veteran who returned to his hometown at the end of his service, where he became successful in the automobile business.

Through the years he also made generous donations to many community efforts, including Pocono Medical Center, and East Stroudsburg University, his Alma Mater.

"I hope he's remembered the way I remember him, as very successful, but also very philanthropic and very giving and a very generous human being," said Jason Motts, Abeloff Dealership president.

Services and a memorial of his life will be held Thursday in Monroe County.

Lester Abeloff was 95 years old.
