UPPER AUGUSTA TOWNSHIP -- A teenage girl is dead after a crash in Nothumberland County.

Marcelle Barber, 18, recently graduated from Mount Carmel Area High School.

Some of her friends are in disbelief over what happened.

Skid marks cover part of Snydertown Road, near Sunbury where Barber was driving when state police say she lost control of her car and crashed before 1 a.m. Tuesday.

Three of her friends were hurt.

"Just driving around and you know, an accident happened.  It's just a shame to hear about it.  These things just shouldn't happen to people like that," said Raymond Wywadis of Mount Carmel.

Wywadis was friends with Marcelle Barber. They even went to the prom together.  He says he is in disbelief over what happened and can't believe she's gone.

"At first I just didn't want to believe it.  When reality set in and I saw it on the news, it just hit hard."

Marcelle Barber was a 2013 graduate of Mount Carmel Area High School.  Her classmates remember her as a nice girl who always had a smile on her face.

"Brighten your day type of girl.  She just always had a smile on her face and a giddy attitude.  One of the nicest girls you'll ever meet," said Kaleb Roney.

"She just was one of the best people you could ever meet.  She would walk into a room and just brighten anybody's day.  She had a smile that was just beyond belief," said Wywadis.

The three passengers in Barber's car were taken to area hospitals.  Another 18 year old is listed in serious condition.
