SCRANTON -- It was a big day on Montage Mountain as a crowd of more than 10,000 music fans turned out for the Vans Warped Tour concert.

It's one of the biggest concert events at Toyota Pavilion in Scranton this summer, on one of the hottest days of the year.

The Vans Warped Tour that features about 40 punk and rock bands has been coming to Montage Mountain for about a decade and officials say you can almost always count on it being hot. It's been scorching and sunny all day causing concert goers to take some extra precautions.

Thousands of punk rock followers made their way up Montage Mountain in the morning before the sun had a chance to set in, but as the hours ticked away and band after band performed, people started bracing for temperatures in the high 90s.

"It's hot but there's a nice breeze so it's not too bad yet.  We'll see, we'll see when we get in there with the crowds and everything," said Lauren Salvageno of New Jersey.

The Vans Warped Tour traditionally comes to Scranton in mid-July, and officials at Toyota Pavilion say you can count on it being scorching hot but, in the middle of a bona fide heat wave, paramedics are prepared.

"We actually have more personnel than we might normally have for this size crowd. We made sure the ambulances were equipped with paramedics. We have more water, ice, stuff like that, cooling devices, water fans cooling fans, stuff like that," said Amanda Arthur, Cottage Hose Company Ambulance.

At Warped Tour where the fashion statements are almost as important as the music, some found unique ways to stay cool.

"Let's see, besides makeup, probably just sunblock and this parasol but that's about it.  But I have plastered on my face so it will not rub off," said Christina Watts of Kutztown.

Watts has already made four stops on the Warped Tour and said Toyota Pavilion's actually the best place to be when it's this hot.

"I love it here, because it's shady and there's cooling station and everything like that. I love it here. It's my favorite venue."

Many fans made sure to lather up, too. Since many of the stages were in direct sunlight.

Jeannie Felgenhauer from Scranton sent her daughter ahead hydrated and cool.

"She actually has ice packs hidden in her belt. She tried to sneak them in, and I told her 'lots and lots of water.' I think she had about a gallon before we got here."

Ice in your belt is a good idea, but one security worker thought his method worked best, as he periodically put a handful of ice under his hat.

"The only way to stay cool!"

The Vans Warped Tour started around 11 a.m. and goes for another few hours and many of the people working in the parking lot are really looking forward to when the sun goes down.
