PIKE COUNTY — A nine-year-old boy drowned Monday afternoon in the Delaware River near Bushkill in Pike County.
According to the Pike County coroner Michael Maxwell, 9, of Bushkill drowned Monday.
According to the National Park Service, the boy from Bushkill was fishing in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, just downstream from Bushkill Access. He lost his footing and slipped into the river around 4:30 p.m. Family members and a boater tried to rescue the boy, but could not.
Divers from the National Park Service found the boy’s body around 6 p.m. in approximately nine feet of water.
Park officials urged all people on the river to use life jackets.
