SCRANTON---The 2013 annual Scrantastic Spectacular in downtown Scranton drew thousands downtown.

The holiday festival which features local music, including a patriotic philharmonic concert is a July tradition for many.

"Oh, I love it, last year was really fun and the fireworks are fantastic, they are the best I've seen around here," said Kelly Lombardo of Drums.

There was a race and of course vendors, selling all different kinds of food.

"A lot to choose from, they're happy with their choices and it's stuff that they don't normally get," said food vendor Jakie Rinish.

"I have a hot dog, french fries, ice cream, it's great, it's fun," said Elaine Peters.

Last year, tens of thousands crowded downtown for the Spectacular as Vice-President Joe Biden, a Scranton native, visited and spoke.

This year, there was no special speaker, but that did not keep it from being special to many in the crowd.

"I haven't missed very many of them. I think it is wonderful, it really is, thanks to these people who put forth the effort to keep this annual event going on, I think this is a really nice community spirit thing," said Philip Jewell Senior of Scranton.
