HAWLEY -- Parts of Wayne County are still under water after flash flooding washed out the Hawley area.
Some roads are closed, and some will stay that way for a while thanks to the damage.
Some roads looked like rivers, others like mudslides.
Now, many remain impassable in Hawley, thanks to flash flooding.
There was a waterfall in front of a house on Prospect Street.
Steve Smith watched it come down from inside his restaurant.
"A lot of rain, a lot of rain, man. It was crazy. Every time you thought it was going to stop, it just came down more and more," said Steve Smith, Fall's Port Steakhouse Owner.
After the rain stopped, crews were out pumping basements.
People still made it out to Smith's restaurant to grab dinner.
"The brave ones came out, some by raft, some by boat, So it should be a fun evening," said Smith.
The water on Chestnut Avenue took out huge chunks of the road and tossed them on the next street over.
"Our town did declare a state of emergency. Wayne County EMA was also here helping that. We had a sinkhole open up next to a house," said Chief Scott Mead, of Hawley Fire Department.
The chief said more than four inches came down, and some people were displaced from their homes.
Jeff swanick said he has several feet of water in his basement.
"Never had water in my basement, no, and it does flood here occasionally but this is by far the worst, by far, the worst," said Swanick.
Owners of the businesses that were closed for the day might have a wet mess waiting for them.
