PITTSTON TOWNSHIP — A man stole copper wires from a transformer in Luzerne County then rode off on his motorcycle, according to police.

Officers in Pittston Township say the theft happened around 9 a.m. Saturday along Route 502 near Moosic.

According to police, a PPL crew brought in a new transformer to replace one damaged the night night before. The transformer was left on the ground, unattended, for about 20 minutes. During that time is when police say the theft happened.

A neighbor told police he saw a man rip copper wires out of the transformer and stuff them up his shirt. When the neighbor approached the man, he rode off on an older model purple and brown motorcycle.

Police describe the thief as an older white man wearing a flannel shirt and jeans. He was last seen heading toward Moosic along Route 502.
