WOODWARD TOWNSHIP -- State police in Lycoming County tell Newswatch 16 troopers are investigating a deadly shooting Thursday morning.

State police spent most the day at this home just outside Williamsport looking for evidence in an overnight shooting death.

Troopers say just after midnight, they responded to find a man shot to death.  Another man was taken into custody and considered a suspect.

"It's surprising seeing a lot of cops up here like this. Generally once and while see a cop go up and down the road, that's it," said neighbor Robert Eisner.

Neighbors were left wondering what happened at the home on Wither Hollow Lane.

By the afternoon, officials released information that Michael Woodhead, 32, had been shot approximately 10 times and died at the home.

According to the Lycoming County district attorney's office, the alleged shooter, Kevin Bennardi, was being questioned at the state police barracks in Montoursville.

An autopsy on Woodhead's body is scheduled for Friday.

According to court papers, Woodhead has a long history of run-ins with the law, including assault charges, as well as drugs and alcohol.

So far, state police have not released details about what happened at Bennardi's home that led to Woodhead's death.

At this point, Bennardi's is only considered a person of interest and is a free man.

More than 12 hours after state police took Kevin Bennardi into custody and questioned him in that shooting death, they are releasing him, saying so far they don't have any evidence that links him to a criminal act.

However, they say after further investigation and an autopsy, that may change.
