Luzerne County's district attorney tells us the shooting victim has died and this case is now being handled as a homicide.
It happened just before 4 p.m. on North Sherman Street in a very busy place, just across the intersection from Heights Elementary School.
Officers quickly blocked off the street and the sidewalk with crime tape.
The police chief says two men were put in the back of a cruiser.
District Attorney Stefanie Salavantis says at least one of those men is considered a person of interest. They're still sorting through a lot of evidence.
One man who was walking by the house where the shooting happened said he heard fighting just seconds earlier.
"We seen guys fighting and by the time we got down the block, we heard a large bang. I thought it was firecrackers. A few minutes later we see a whole bunch of guys coming up," said a man identified as Relly. "The cop cars, oh, man I hope it's not bad stuff. Now we look and my good friend is gone."
The chief tells us that officers believe that everyone involved has been located. He said the community should not be worried about their safety.
