Tuesday evening in Pittston Township, the amusement rides are running, the food vendors are cooking and people are in high spirits all around.

It can only mean one thing:

“Northeast Fair, 2013! Yeah summer!” shouted a group of friends in for a night of fun.

That`s right, the annual Northeast Fair opened its doors, kicking off the start of the summer carnival season.

“It`s really good, it brings the community together, all the kids get out and have fun, especially know that the summer`s starting,” said Chad DeFelice from Clifton Township.

And this good time is also for a good cause; it’s the largest fundraiser for the Pittston Township Fire Department, bringing in roughly 70 percent of its operational costs.

Fire fighters promise to give fair goers a great show.

Along with the rides, there`s musical acts, contests and new this year, a monster truck rally.

“You`re not cooped in your house from the winter time and the kids get to come out and get their energy off, “said Elizabeth Gage from Duryea.

“Ah, I like the time I get on rides,” said Gage’s young nephew, Kevin.

Be advised you`re going to build up an appetite walking the fairgrounds and riding all the rides. But don`t worry you can recharge by taking advantage of all the fun food the fair has to offer.

For some, they prefer the traditional fair foods.

“Potato pancakes, oh yeah,” said Olivia Norwillo of Duryea.

“I personally really like the potato pancakes as well, I`m looking forward to getting those,” said Olivia’s sister, Abby.

But for those looking to throw caution and their diets to the wind, go for the yummy greasy bacon.

“We do the bacon wrapped corn dog, so it`s bacon battered, bacon wrapped, so the batter has bacon bits right in it and it`s super bacony, super good,” said Whitney Fraleigh, who works at The Bacon Dog.

Northeast Fair runs through Sunday in Pittston Township.
