WILLIAMSPORT -- Baseball is back in Billtown.
This is the 15th season for the Williamsport Crosscutters and Tuesday's home opener against the State College Spikes is sure to get a good crowd.
It takes a lot to get ready for the first game of the season at Historic Bowman Field especially after an ice rink sat on top of the field all winter.
The finishing touches were being put on the field and off the field at Bowman Field.
The nearly 90-year old ballpark in Williamsport is home to the New York-Penn League Crosscutters, an affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies.
"It is an exciting year, our 15th anniversary of the Crosscutters here at Historic Bowman Field, we can't wait to get started," said Cutters' Vice President Gabe Sinicropi.
Crews have been busy for weeks, getting ready for the Cutters' home opener.
A new dugout deck on the third base side will give fans a good view of the game on the pristine field.
"Just about a month goes into just this one night, it helps really sustain a nice beautiful field throughout the season," said groundskeeper Jordan Fredo.
Nearly a year ago, Williamsport's mayor announced he was bringing a minor league hockey team to play outdoors at Bowman Field. The team eventually folded, leaving the field in need of repairs.
The rink was carted out of the park in April to fix the damage left behind. Crews installed more sod and new turf to replace the entire infield and foul territory and Bowman Field is ready once again for baseball.
"We're happy we got a new field out of the process, a new infield, at the end of the day something positive that came out of that experiment," added Sinicropi.
Spring Moore and her son Cooper came early for tickets to the game, thrilled that Cutters baseball is back for another summer in Billtown.
"We're very excited, Cooper absolutely loves the Crosscutters, the atmosphere, loves the food, the games, the fireworks, we have to get our tickets."
The repairs to Bowman Field cost nearly $20,000.
That money came from the now defunct Williamsport Outlaws and the non-profit group that ran the ice rink.
The city is suing both for tens of thousands of dollars in outstanding utility bills.
