SCRANTON -- Events were held throughout the area to celebrate Father's Day, raise money, and provide some education about northeastern Pennsylvania.
Dad's and classic car lovers were treated to quite a display at Nay Aug Park in Scranton.
Villa Capri Car Cruisers club gave out awards for the top 20 at the Father's Day car show.
Raffles and donations taken at the car show will be given to charities in Lackawanna County.
The skies were pretty busy over part of Monroe County.
Remote-controlled helicopters and planes were buzzing by at the 35th annual West End Wings remote control model air show in Chestnuthill Township, near Effort.
One plane was even made to look like a flying lawnmower.
"It's a great hobby, actually, because it's a technical hobby. If you have an interest in science or engineering, it tends to foster those interests as well. I actually teach physics for a profession and I usually incorporate it into my lessons. When I'm not working, I'm doing this on the side," said Herb Ziegler.
Other popular events include the plate drop where a World War II model plane tries to bomb targets that are actually plates.
A favorite with the kids the candy drop.
In Luzerne County, northeastern Pennsylvania's coal mining history was brought back to life this weekend .
Eckley Miners Village near Freeland hosted Patch Town Days.
Volunteers and craftsmen re-created what it was like living in a coal mining town in the late 1800s.
There were craft and tool demonstrations for visitors.
One volunteer says it's important to remember our areas industrial past.
"It's basically our only precious gem here in northeastern Pennsylvania and in order to preserve that history, we like to come out here, dress up as coal miners and show folks what it was like living in a patch town," said Garrett Kost.
There was also an exhibit of original paintings and sculptures depicting the lives of coal miners at the visitors center at Eckley Miners Village. Visitors can stop by and see it through the end of August.
