SOUTH ABINGTON TOWNSHIP -- One of Lackawanna County's most popular parks is shutting down for several months.

The South Abington Township Park closed at dusk on Sunday, and it isn't expected to reopen until September.

Township officials said they have to replace a sewer line that runs right through the park, underneath the basketball court.

While the summer hot spot near Clarks Summit is shut down, crews said they'll spend about $150,000 on upgrades above ground to make up for the timing of the park closure.

The walking trail around the park will stay open during the repair work this summer.
