The Loyalsock Lancers "AA" baseball team got the hit they needed in the bottom of the 7th inning Friday in the state championship game with Beaver. Tied 4-4 Loyalsock back-up catcher Bailey Young stepped in the box with runners on 1st and 2nd and delivered a single to right field eventually scoring Caleb Robbins with the game winning run and a 5-4 victory to claim the "AA" state championship.
This is the Lancers second state title in school history. They won the "AA" title back in 2008.
In the 3rd inning Kyle Datres doubled to the right field corner and eventually got to third on a Beaver throwing error. The next batter Jimmy Webb doubled in Datres to give the Lancers a 2-1 lead in the 3rd inning.
Beaver would score two runs in the 4th inning to tie the game at 3-3. Tommy Baggett pushed the Lancers ahead in the 5th win a basehit, but Sock would surrender the lead again in the 7th on a basehit making it 4-4. In the bottom of the frame that's when Sock won the game and finished with a great celebration.
In the state playoffs Loyalsock had wins over Lakeland 3-0 at Scranton high-school, then a tough 9-5 win over Delone Catholic in a game that started at Pine Grove and finished at Bloomsburg University, then they defeated Salisbury out of District 11 with their bats 8-1 and some good pitching from Luke Glavine.
The Lancers finish the 2013 season with record of (22-3) and only loses 4 seniors. Webb, Datres, Glavine, Baggett, Krizan, Sosa, Moore, Kline, and Young all return next year.
