WILLIAMSPORT — Some young people in Lycoming County did their part to help keep the parks and playgrounds looking good.

Newswatch 16 found some of the youngsters at Elm Park in Williamsport, filling plastic bags with trash.

The annual community clean up event gets troubled kids into about twenty parks, playgrounds and baseball fields. The boys and girls found bottles, cigarette butts, and more.

Organizers hope it’s a way to help kids appreciate and take pride in their community.

“How are you guys making a difference by what you do?”

“Making the community look nice,” said Matthew Hipple of South Williamsport.

This is the fifteenth year for the clean up that includes kids in Lycoming County juvenile probation and other treatment centers in central Pennsylvania.
