HONESDALE -- Police charged a woman with nearly 30 counts of animal cruelty.

Last month, Humane Society police officers removed more than 50 cats from the home of Barbera Colby.

Officers say the cats were living in unsanitary conditions, not vaccinated, spayed or neutered.

They are now being cared for at the Dessin Animal Shelter, where some of the cats are still giving birth.

Officials say Colby has been cited before and refused to cooperate or get rid of her cats.

Colby is due in court in Wayne County at the end of the month.
