UNIVERSITY PARK -- Our area is well represented today at the state baseball and softball championship games in State College. Two high school baseball teams and two softball teams from our area competed for titles Friday.

One of those teams that played in the championship game is from Canton.  The boys from Bradford County lost 5-0 but they had a very large cheering section at the championship game in University Park.

It is the day many high school baseball players strive for the PIAA championships.

Jen Wesneski's son Garrett pitches for the Canton Warriors.

"It's a moment that Garrett has been waiting for since he was a little kid.  He's grown up following ball since he was old enough to put a bat in his hand."

It is the first time a baseball team from canton was in the PIAA championship game.  Hundreds of fans drove about two hours from Canton to University Park to support their team.

"As you can see, the whole town of Canton is here!" exclaimed Mayor John Vineski.

Most people did not think twice about making the trip.

"When we heard they were in the finals, there was no question," said Dave Williams.

"Our three children went to canton so we try to support as best we can all the things that are going on and we are a real small town that really gets behind their kids," said David Morris of Canton.

"We have such a small town community and it's just awesome support.  The community is all here today," Wesneski added.

"Canton's always been that way.  Wrestling, baseball, football,  if we have a team, we support them," Williams said.

The kids from Canton hope to be back at the PIAA championships next year.  Parents say this is a young team and all but three of the students will be back next year.

"Win or lose, they are champions to us," said Mayor Vineski.

Unfortunately the Canton Warriors lost 5-0.

Teams from Loyalsock, Williams Valley and Valley View also played in the PIAA championships at University Park.
