KULPMONT -- Children spent the day sliding and swinging at the brand new playground in Kulpmont. Leaders in Kulpmont cut the ribbon on the new Terry Mirielle Stadium Playground on Ash Street.

Kulpmont had been without a playground for about two years. The old one closed because its equipment was not up to safety standards.

"My grandchildren are coming from Pottsville, from Orwigsburg, and we always had to go somewhere else to use the playground. I thought, there's something wrong with this picture," Joe Cesari said.

Construction on the playground started last summer. It was built by volunteers with the help of a $40,000 grant.

"There were 50 people here that helped us build this thing out of the ground," Cesari said.

"They really came out in full force. When you have good people come together, it makes running a show like this very easy," Stephen Motyka said.

To make sure the playground stays safe and clean for a long time, someone donated and installed nine security cameras.

Amy Eggen looks forward to bringing her children to the playground for years to come.

"This is nice, clean equipment and safe for the kids. It's the only place to go in town and she sees all her friends from school here," Eggan said.

The kids agree.

"So what is your favorite part of this playground?"

Well, I like the swings," Stephen Motyka said.

"The big slide," Debra Eggan said.

"The big slide? Do you like the swings too?"

"Yep."

Leaders in Kulpmont say this playground is a labor of love and a dream come true.
