TUNKHANNOCK TOWNSHIP -- Bluegrass enthusiasts are setting up camp for a weekend festival in Wyoming County.

It's music musicians say will reach your soul: bluegrass and hundreds of music lovers have moved into Lazybrook Park in Tunkhannock Township for the weekend NEPA Bluegrass Festival.

"The people are really nice, there's a lot of good music, a lot of good parking lot picking, real good stage music.  It's just a real nice festival," Glenn Estes from Newfoundland.

You'll find small groups like playing or "picking" all weekend, sharing songs with strangers and old friends.

Organizer Danny Stewart says he's proud of this sixth festival he's put together, drawing in headliners like the Larry Stephenson Band from Nashville.

"It's like the field of dreams basically, if you build it they will come," Stewart said.

The heart of this festival lies in places like the jam tent where George Cram of Danville and anyone else who wants can make their own music.

"You can meet a lot of nice people, a lot of good jamming and we have a good time here," Cram said.

Festival goers say to beat the heat, they can just jump in the creek or find some shade, but when it comes to keeping their instruments cool, it's a bit more challenging.

"The wooden instruments are a little finicky, but it's not really that humid, the wetter it gets the more they swell," said Jillian Lucas, Coal County Express Band.

Dave Strunk repair guitars and is helping many musicians make sure their instruments are in top condition to play in any way he can.

"We'll do restrings and set-ups on guitars. Everybody comes nice and early for the weekend to get new strings on the guitar," said Strunk.

They are keeping music in the air all weekend long, no matter how hot it may get.

The NEPA Bluegrass Festival runs through Sunday and is a family-friendly event with lots of activities for kids and adults of all ages.
