WILKES-BARRE -- A new effort is underway to make sure that families in need don't go hungry.

Nine food banks across the state joined forces, creating a network to fight hunger in Pennsylvania.

Newswatch 16 stopped by the Weinberg Regional Food Bank Tuesday morning in Wilkes-Barre.

Senator Bob Casey joined food pantry volunteers to talk about the new "Feeding Pennsylvania" partnership.

The food bank in Wilkes-Barre supplies food pantries in four counties..

Workers say the need is greater than ever.

"We've seen a huge increase in demand. So while the shelves may look stocked here, there is increasing need out there. We really ask for the community support as well," said Caryn Long.

According to one study, early two million people across the state struggle to put food on the table for their families every day.

Organizers say they are always looking for donations and volunteers at the food bank.
