With seven hits over six innings Lakeland defeated Mid Valley 6-0 in the District 2 AA baseball championship game on Monday at PNC Field.
Chiefs starting pitcher Eric Grabowski pitched a two-hitter to earn the win for Lakeland.
Shane Rivenburgh started things for Lakeland in the bottom of the first inning with a double to right field scoring the second run of the game to make it 2-0.
Then on a play at the plate later in the first inning Rivenburgh collided with Spartans catcher Alex Varaska. Rivenburgh called out at home and then ejected from the game for hitting Varaska high on the chest. Varaska fell backwards at home plate from the hit breaking his forearm. He would leave the game and be taken to a local hospital.
Eric Blevins doubled in the second inning for Lakeland to put the lead at 4-0.
With Grabowski in control on the mound the Chiefs added two more runs. One on a single from Grabowski and another from Tyler Brady.
Lakeland plays on Monday June 3rd in the first round of state play.
