The PIAA state track and field championships converged on the grounds of Shippensburg University Saturday, with hundreds of athletes hopeful to take home the gold! Several athletes from our area claimed those top honors. Holy Cross's Rico Galassi finished first in the boys' 3200 run. Barely beating North Schuylkill's Brendan Shearn, who finished second, but Galassi wasn't alone in claiming gold for our region.

Stroudsburg's Donovan Clay won the AAA boys' high jump at 6 feet 6 inches! This is Clay's first trip to states, and it was certainly a memorable one for the Stroudsburg senior.

The Holy Redeemer girls relay team had a big day at Shippensburg in the 3200 relay, leading early in the first few laps. They would go on to finish second, to claim the silver! A great accomplishment for the team's 3 seniors.

Christine Streisel of Tamaqua claimed the silver medal at states in the javelin throw.  Streisel won the state title last year, but fell just short of claiming gold for a second time. Saturday, she threw 144 feet and 11 inches.

In the 4 by 100 relay, the Central Columbia girls finished a thrilling race, by coming in second!!! The lady Blue Jays were elated to receive the silver medal at states.
