Fire Wrecks Blakely Homes

One home was destroyed, and another heavily damaged this morning in Lackawanna County.

BLAKELY -- One home was destroyed and another has heavy damage after an early morning fire in Blakely.

The first alarm on 4th Street came in around 4:30 Monday morning. The first firefighters on the scene quickly called for backups. One home was filled with flames, and the fire was beginning to spread to a second.

A Blakely police officer was one of the first on the scene. Patrolman Phil Manelli says it was impossible to enter one of the homes because of the fire. He made it in to the second to discover it was empty. Family members say the three people who lived there were away on vacation.

Craig Horrocks came by to see the damage to the home where his father lives.

"When I looked up, I looked to that window and I saw the sky through the other side. And, I looked to the other side of the house and its gone. And, it's pretty rough," said Horrocks.

Firefighters say a woman and her daughter lived in the home where the fire started. They had just left to start a paper route when the flames erupted.

No one was hurt.  A state police fire marshal is investigating.
