Man Charged After Shooting in Honesdale

HONESDALE- Officials say a man in Wayne county was arrested after shooting his daughter in the face at a home on Eleventh Street in Honesdale.

Police say 38-year-old Matthew Holmes was visiting friends Saturday night with his 15-year-old daughter. Holmes was sitting at a kitchen table and took out his 9 mm and the live round from inside the gun and set it on the table. While Holmes was handling the gun, it went off and hit his daughter in the face.

Someone in the home called 911. Holmes' daughter was flown to the hospital. Police say she is in stable condition.

Holmes was arrested and charged with recklessly endangering another person and is in the Wayne county jail.
