TUNKHANNOCK -- Penndot said a bridge repair project in Wyoming County is wrapping up Thursday, but this final day certainly had an impact on traffic.
Much of Tunkhannock was more like a parking lot as drivers tried to get across the busy Route 29 bridge over the Susquehanna River.
Looking in just about every direction in Tunkhannock you could find long lines of cars, trucks and drivers just waiting to get across the Route 29 bridge over the Susquehanna River.
The busy bridge was down to one lane leaving traffic a mess.
"We're just coming down here. We're trying to get to Walmart down here. Very slow," said Joyce Elaisure, of Montrose.
"This is the worst day I've had of it. Come through here and sometimes it's jammed up. I don't know what they're doing, single lane guy with a stop thing and the stop light and we're backed up here so nothing's going anywhere," said Wayne Franko, of Nicholson.
What they were doing, was line painting and other jobs as Penndot wraps up a bridge construction project that's lasted for four months.
Many waiting in all the traffic were frustrated, others tried to wait patiently.
"No not (bothering me) too much. Not yet. If it's longer it might bother me," said Florence Burgmann, of Dushore.
There have been big delays on and off during this project the past few months. But there's one good thing about all the delays, Penndot said this is the last day of this project."
"I think it'll be a good thing to get the bridge all painted up and everything will go fine," said Alan Kinsman, of Eaton Township.
Some drivers said the work repairing the bridge in recent months wasn't as bad as they thought it would be. But on Thursday, the final day, many of those in this traffic are glad it will be done.
Penndot expects to have all lanes of the Route 29 bridge at Tunkhannock back open to traffic tomorrow, ending this project before the busy summer travel season.
