The Penguins swept Binghamton, but Providence would be a bear of an opponent in round two.

The Bruins had the best record in the AHL during the regular season and won both games against the Penguins but, of course, the post-season is a new season.

Game 1 from the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, the Penguins out-shoot the Bruins 17-6 in the first period.

They get rewarded with a penalty shot by Chad Kolarik... 1-0 Pens.

66 sec left in the first...  #16 Derek Nesbitt can't clear the puck---Ryan Spooner beats Jeff Zatkoff and it's 1-1 after one.

2nd period, top of the screen Brian Gibbons scores to tie it at 2, but the Bruins erupt for three goals in 3 1/2 minutes.

Trent Whitfield with a pretty feed to Kyle MacKinnon makes it 3-2 Providence.

Jamie Tardif extends the lead to make it 4-2.

Paul Thompson scored two goals to keep it close...Once to make it 5-3, another to get the Pens to within one at 6-5.

But, Providence wins by a wild and wooly score of 8-5.

After a slow start, the Bruins bury the Penguins in Game 1.
