ABC News confirmed Sunday night that Barbara Walters will retire next summer, in 2014.

An official announcement is expected on Monday’s episode of “The View.” The show can be seen at 11 a.m. on WNEP-TV.

Walters has spent 37 years with ABC News. She created “The View” in 1997 and plans to remain Executive Producer.
Walters began her career in 1961 at NBC’s “Today Show,” where she eventually became a co-host.
In 1976, Walters found a new home at ABC “Evening News,” where she became the first female anchor on an evening news program. Three years later, she became a co-host of “20/20.”Walters is known for her interviews with world leaders and celebrities alike.

She will turn 84 in September.
