DUNMORE -- Two fallen federal corrections officers were honored Saturday with an end of watch workout.
Friends, co-workers and complete strangers pushed themselves to the limit with intense exercise in Lackawanna County.
Standing united, state and local police, corrections officers, and family members gathered at Keystone CrossFit in Dunmore to share memories, and to honor two fallen federal corrections officers.
More than 150 people pushed themselves with overhead walking lunges, burpee box jumps and rowing. The special workout of the day was in honor of Eric Williams.
Federal officials said the corrections officer died back in February after he was attacked by an inmate while patrolling a cell block inside the Canaan Federal Prison near Waymart.
“A few months ago we attended Eric Williams' funeral. To see that amount of people there and the support his family had. Even though it's a couple of months later, they still feel the pain, they still need support," said Mike Carroll a State Police Officer.
Some of the money raised from the end of watch workout and raffles will go to a scholarship fund to help students at the high school Williams graduated from in Nanticoke.
“It's going to go to I believe his local high school criminal justice program. That's going to support kids that want to get into the criminal justice area of work," said Timothy Muenkel, the Keystone CrossFit Owner.
The end of watch workout was also in memory of Gregory Vineski of Scranton.
He worked with Williams at the federal prison in Wayne County. Vineski died a week after Williams was killed.
Some of the proceeds also went to the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter in Clarks Summit in memory of Vineski.
