LAKE WINOLA -- You have the chance this weekend to get a look inside a historic country club that is usually for members only.
The club along the shore of Lake Winola had a serious makeover this winter and will be open for the public on Saturday only.
The final touches are all that's left on a major renovation project at the Scranton Canoe Club that's actually in Wyoming County.
Members say the century-old building on Lake Winola holds a lot of history but had a lot of problems.
"This was a hundred year old building that came into existence in the mid to late 1900s. A group of Canoers from Scranton actually built the facility to keep their canoes," said Jim Mecca.
Now it's mostly for golf. Members and guests have a new entrance, the building has been newly wired, hallways have been widened and locker rooms upgraded.
Philip Detorre, a 38-year member from Clarks Summit, says it's something he's proud of.
"When you have guests come in, this is very handy, the bathrooms, the hallways, you see how spacious."
Executive Chef Jeanele Ransom, busy preparing for the weekend open house, says the kitchen used to be cramped.
"I'm making a citrus aioli, for a tuna appetizer," she said.
Now ransom says there's enough room for a new sous chef and line cook and she's proud to show off her new space.
"If you saw it previous to now, it's just jaw-dropping because it's like club house now, it's not just a little cottage."
A handicap accessible ramp was also a big part of the about $300,000 renovation. People at the Scranton Canoe Club say it wouldn't have all been possible without their members."
"Oh, I'm happy, very happy. We had good people working, they're very good. We had special guys putting up doors, special guys doing trim work."
Members are also excited to show off the expanded patio and hope guests enjoy every second.
"Well, it took us 100 years but we're getting there."
