SCRANTON -- A new program looks to aid students on their path to graduate.

Members of Scranton's downtown business community gathered Tuesday with representatives from some of the area colleges and universities to start up a new intern program.

The group said they want to give students a better chance at participating in internships downtown in hopes they will stay here and possibly even want to start new businesses in the area.

"The University of Scranton's been doing a lot to bring students into the downtown area to shop and dine and visit but we wanted to give them a chance to actually get that hands on work experience in downtown Scranton to really see whats happening in the area as far as business opportunities and hopefully stay here in the area once they graduate," said Julie Cohen, University of Scranton.

The hope is to get the intern program in the greater Scranton area off the ground by the fall 2014 semester.
