THROOP — Crews in Lackawanna County battled fire early Monday morning.
The flames started around 3:30 a.m. in the 600 block of Sanderson Street in Throop.
Everyone inside the five unit home was able to get out safely. A resident said he got out with his wallet, cell phone and nothing else.
“I heard a woman screaming, ah fire, fire and I jumped out and put a shirt on and I came out the door and it was already spreading down the side of the house,” said fire victim Steve Thomas.
A woman tells us six cats were killed in the fire, but some other pets were able to escape.
No word on what sparked the flames.
