PITTSTON -- The limousine fire comes during high school prom season. Owners of a limo company in Luzerne County say it's one of the busiest times of the year.
Luxury Limousine Service in Pittston is already well into its busy season. Half of the garage was empty this afternoon because of already rented limos. The owner there said despite the deadly limousine fire in California, people shouldn't be scared to rent limos.
Carl Gross owns Luxury Limousine Service in Pittston. Despite this weekend's deadly limo fire in California, he said the limos are just as safe as any other car.
"The car that was involved in the accident was a 1999, very old, very probably miled up at that point. They should do homework, that's the key word," said Luxury Limousine Service owner Carl Gross.
Gross said in Pennsylvania, a law is in the works that would require limo companies to keep vehicles older than eight years old off the road. He said the Better Business Bureau and safer.org have information on limo services around the country to help you make the best and safest choice when choosing a limo.
A limousine like this seats about 10 people and some parents we spoke with at Wyoming area who have kids going to prom soon sid they won't be sending their kids in a limo like this. Other say it's safer than having the kids drive themselves.
"I think it's safe to be honest with you. I think i would rather the kids all get together and go in the limo than have them out on the road driving on their own. I think their chances of something really happening are slimmer if we put them in the limo," said Sandy Eramo, of Exeter.
"I don't think I'll ever get in a limo again. You know? So I would rather just see her go with somebody or go with friends," said John Reno, of Wyoming.
Carl Gross said it's up to you, but it's important to do research.
"You want to make sure the car you're getting into is quality and not just someone stretching a car and selling it and having fun with it," said Gross.
