SCRANTON — Like many students, Rahsan “Duke” Crowder was looking forward to the end of the school year and returning home to his family. Early Sunday morning he was shot and killed just yards from his dorm at the intersection of Vine Street and Madison Avenue in Scranton.
Later on Sunday, students could be seen leaving the residence hall and leaning over a rail to look at the crime scene marked in yellow tape.
“It’s unbelievable,” said dorm resident Brian Vidal.
“There was a dispute between several individuals, but we believe only one person was shooting and only one person was shot, said Acting Police Chief Carl Graziano.
Friends say that “Duke” was known for his sense of humor and was very close to his family who lives in Harrisburg, especially his mother.
Anthony Sweet said that Crowder came to Lackawanna College to play football but left the team. Still, he adds, the 22 year old was optimistic about his future.
He said Crowder wanted to be, “A football player or just successful, have a nice house and a nice family.”
This is the first shooting death in Scranton in more than a year.
