Kingston Police Chief Takes Leave

KINGSTON — Newswatch 16 has learned the chief of police in Kingston has taken a paid administrative leave.

According to a news release, chief Keith Keiper’s leave will, “Allow Kingston to review its policies and procedures relating to the assignment of officers to outside events.”

Chief Keiper’s leave was effective starting Wednesday.

In April, an Action 16 investigation revealed the Internal Revenue Service is investigating the Wyoming Valley West School District in Luzerne County.

The investigation is over money collected from middle school dances.

District officials said some money was paid in cash to off-duty Kingston police officers who provided security at the dances.
