MOUNT CARMEL TOWNSHIP -- A firefighter was sent to the hospital while battling flames in Northumberland County Tuesday morning and now officials believe the fire is suspicious.
Crews say the fire started in the basement of a vacant side of a double block home on West Girard Street near Mount Carmel around 1 a.m. Tuesday.
A man living on the other side got out safely and is staying with relatives.
The firefighter was hurt when a hose burst. He was treated at the hospital and released.
