One Dead and One in Custody After Shooting

UPDATE: WILKES-BARRE -- Authorities have arrested and charged a man for the deadly shooting in Wilkes-Barre Thursday.

Prison officials said Shauntae Thomas, 36, is behind bars in Luzerne County, charged with criminal homicide.

According to court documents, officers arrived to Reno Lane for reports of gun shots around 7:30 at night.  Officers claim a witness identified Thomas as the shooter.  Police found a gun in his possession.

Authorities said the man killed was Derrick Cottle.  Cottle had an apparent gun shot wound to his head and was dead at the scene, according to emergency responders.

Police said Thomas' son, Devin, was found hurt in the area of the shooting on Reno Street. He was taken to Geisinger Hospital.

Wilkes-Barre police are still investigating the shooting.

It happened just before 7 p.m. Thursday on Reno Lane in the city.

Neighbors said a group of men were fighting on nearby Coal Street when that fight spilled onto Reno Lane.

One person was shot in the head and killed.

Police said they arrested one man and found a gun on scene.

There is no word on the victims' name or age, and no word on who the suspect is either.

Wilkes-Barre Police said they are interviewing several eyewitnesses after the deadly shooting.
